Do you remember when was the last time you say "I Love You" to your parents?
When was the last time you give your parents a big hug?
When was the last time you and your parents have a deep conversation?
For those who are away from home, when was the last time you go home?
We are so busy growing up, we often forget they are growing old too.

In the movie "The Journey", Uncle Chuan is waiting lonely for her daughter to come back.

As we grow up, the time we spend with our parents is getting lesser. We are busy with our studies, our dreams, and our friends. We have so many things in our priority list, but try asking yourselves, do you put them as your priority?
The time we spend with our friends is much more than the time we spend with them. Whenever we are back to hometown, the first thing we do is to meet up with friends but not our parents. We tend to find excuses for neglecting them and we always forgot that they need our companion too.
The highest-grossing local movie, "The Journey" is the reflection of us.
This movie is roughly about a girl, Bee who brings her foreign fiance, Benji back to her hometown after many years staying in the UK. However, her stubborn and conservative father, Uncle Chuan refuses to acknowledge this son-in-law.
Through this movie, I realize that communication is a very important element to enhance the happiness of a family. As we are away from home, we do not have the chance to talk to our parents as often as those who are staying with their parents. Thus, misunderstanding and miscommunication might occur. We should always keep in touch with our parents to let them know that we are doing well. You will never know how much a phone call means to them.

Whatever we achieve in life, never forget the sacrifices of our parents. In the movie "The Journey", Bee hates his father for sending her to the UK since she was very young. What she does not know is the sacrifices of his father throughout these years...
He works hard to support her fees and her living expenses in the UK…
He also has to bear with the loneliness without her daughter and wife by his side…
Every parent has their own way to express their love to their children so try to understand the way your parents show their love to you.
Treasure your loved one in your life. You will never know when the last goodbye is. One of the scenes in the movie that touched me a lot is when a very good friend of Uncle Chuan died. It was so sudden that Uncle Chuan did not have the chance to say goodbye to him. We should appreciate and treasure every moment in life and enjoy our life to the fullest. Life is short, there is no time to leave important words unsaid.
The movie also shows us that language is never a barrier when it comes to love. One of the reasons Uncle Chuan disliked Benji is because of the language barrier. However, as the time passes, he realizes that it is not a problem as long as Benji loves his daughter and he is willing to learn Chinese for him. Just like how Benji treats his father-in-law, we should always respect our parents and be thoughtful. Treat them with patience, just like how they treat us when we were young.
